The great thing about thermal coffee pots as opposed to normal coffee makers is that the coffee stays hot and fresh in a thermal carafe for longer, maximising the use of its double wall insulating system to maintain the coffee’s freshness.
But in order to maintain a freshly brewed cup of coffee, you need to ensure that the coffee pot is cleaned on a regular basis. If you live in a soft water area, then around every 80 brew cycles should do it, or around every 40 brew cycles if you live in a hard water area. Because when you clean out the pot, it removes the calcium deposits that can affect the taste of the coffee you want to drink.
So in order to do a good job cleaning your thermal coffee maker, you will need to gather some resources starting with white household vinegar, water, a soft cloth, and washing up liquid. Make sure the coffee pot is cool before you get to work and try not to use an abrasive cleanser or a steel wool pad to clean the carafe for risk of damaging the inside of the pot. Also bear in mind, that you can’t put the thermal carafe in a dishwasher.
So start with putting a clear paper filter in the filter basket, and add one part vinegar and two parts water into the filter. Then fill the water reservoir half full and brew the solution though the pot. Then turn off the coffee pot and let your mixture set for about half an hour before touching it again. Then empty the carafe and put another mix of vinegar and water, as above, through the carafe, before emptying the it and rinsing with water. Next, fill the water reservoir up with more clean water, and remove the paper filter, and proceed to brew the water. Do this twice for maximum effect.
Finally, clean it out and fill up the thermal carafe with a mix of equal water and vinegar, letting it set for about 20 minutes before emptying and rinsing. Put hot water and some washing up liquid into the carafe, and mix it around before rinsing out the solution, to ensure the pot is ready to be used again without a hint of the taste of solution.
With that your thermal coffee pot, should be as good as new, ready for the next round of fantastic coffee making.
